ACE Bird Proofing

National Distribution Centre

Case Study: National Distribution Centre

This project involved the total renovation a large, but older warehouse and office facility. The most significant addition from a bird proofing viewpoint was the new canopy. The canopy rates as one of the largest single span canopies, being at 68M span and 90M length.

The Brief:

The tender brief called for installing 19mm knotted polyethylene BirdNet under the trusses of the canopy structure complete with proprietary fittings. The object was to prevent birds gaining entry from the underside of the net into the canopy roof void. Our discussions with the contractor verified their exact requirements and the additional features available, including fitting Zips.

The Solution:

The Ace BirdNet installation was staged to fit in with work by other trades in surrounding areas under construction. Ten separate nets were fitted under the trusses to form a single layer of tensioned horizontal Ace BirdNet. Later a variation was issued to install a 90M x 4.5M net vertically down the inside of the outer canopy wall, stopping 1.4M above the floor. (This has been done on many canopies to maximise the effectiveness of bird proofing within an overall canopy area). The client later, accepted the option of fitting zips beneath the positions of all the sprinkler heads and lights.
